Many people ask about online jobs for students when they are in college and higher education. Education is changing for many people – now they have to find a way to earn money while they study, or else they won’t be able to afford the tuition fees (not to mention anything else). There are jobs which are more or less suitable for a college student, and increasingly these can be found online, with students being able to use their existing skills and abilities to earn money in the times they are not doing work for their courses. Since a lot of people today are using the online world for all manner of reasons, and since today’s young people are becoming more and more tech-literate as time goes on, finding an online job seems like the safest option for a college student.
Freelance Writing
Freelance writing is probably one of the best jobs for college students precisely because it is so wide-ranging. Anybody can require freelance writing at any time, and the way it is set up allows college students to really see what can be done with the tools they already possess.
There are hundreds of ways in which to start out in freelance writing, and a lot of it is down to just what the student in question wants to do. Freelancers work on just about anything, from short fiction to long form journalism, and it is all about finding out what you can write, and what you can do with the time you have.
What is particularly useful about freelance writing is that many outlets which make use of freelancers don’t actually want a full article or story right off the bat. What they want is to hear a pitch or a synopsis of what the freelancer has planned, so that they can then decide whether or not they want to pursue the story. This is useful for college students because it means that they don’t need to waste precious time on writing something which may or may not be picked up and paid for.
Social Media Manager
With more and more people now having and using social media, the question of how to earn money when studying is increasingly being answered through the use of social media in some way. A social media manager is the person within an organisation who handles their social media output. This will obviously include the output of the social media, but it also includes who people retweet or share, who they follow, how they react to important news and ideas, and also how they in general interact with their customer base which also uses that particular form of social media.
In this online era, the brand of a company is all important, and social media is one way to ensure that the company is coherent and seen properly. Since more and more people are turning to social media for all of their online needs, including shopping and online reviews, it is vitally important that people see the companies that they want to use on social media, and ready to engage through that medium. A social media manager helps people to understand the company brand, and helps that brand to stay relevant in a world which is changing very quickly.
Academic Writing
There are a large number of custom writing services like EssayZoo in existence, and most of them need writers. Not all of these sites are appropriate, of course – some rely on trickery and cheap labour in order to maintain their position as a site which can be trusted to handle academic writing, but there are many legitimate ones.
One of the main things these sites look for in writers is the ability to handle academic work. Since college students by default have to handle academic writing, this job is almost perfect for them. Many sites do ask for some level of previous experience in academic writing, but many don’t, and will be happy to take someone on if they ask.
The main reason for academic writing being particularly useful for college students is that the work is inherently flexible in nature. There are people who use it as their full-time occupation, but there are many more who only do it part-time. The work is set up in such a way that you can choose your own workload, and to an extent, your own schedule. Being able to choose your own workload means that a college student can choose to do work which fits in with their own course schedule, and doesn’t interfere with them doing their own work in any way.
Search Engine Evaluator
A search engine evaluator is somebody who spends their time testing the results given by a search engine, to determine whether or not they are relevant to the terms which were typed in. Search engine evaluators are very important because they are one of the ways in which search engines keep their accuracy, and therefore keep people using them for their searches.
A search engine evaluator therefore looks at the search results which have been returned by the search, in order to determine not only their general accuracy, but also to see that they appear in the right order.
This job is a good fit for a college student for two separate reasons: one is that it is possible to do this job from home, so that people who are studying can fit it into their schedule without needing to give up regular time for commutes which they might not have time for. The other reason is that it is flexible work; people can work on it when they have the time, rather than needing to devote regular hours to it during the week. It is perfect for a college student who might have a schedule which changes from week to week.
Virtual Assistant
While a virtual assistant may require more regular hours than the other items on this list, it is still a job which could be carried out by a college student. A virtual assistant does the same work as a regular assistant, but instead of being in person, does everything online. A virtual assistant therefore has no need of commuting, or finding appropriate clothing for everyday office wear. The virtual part of this assistant job also means that people can get jobs across the seas – people in the UK can work for those in the US, for example, because the time difference will allow them to do the necessary work after the normal duties of their day have been carried out and completed in themselves.
