Negative space is the area that surrounds the main object in a photo, and can be utilized as a composition tool to convey sizes and shapes more effectively. It is a concept that has been used in art, design and architecture for a very long time, and is equally useful in photography. Using negative space can help you capture simple yet powerful images that stand out.
Negative space establishes and emphasizes the main subject (called the ‘positive space') of your image and draws the viewer's eyes to it, making it a more engaging composition.
