Will use same technology in Lion King remake
Solo: A Star Wars Story isn’t even out yet, but we’re already talking about another exciting iteration of the Star Wars universe.
New details about Jon Favreau’s upcoming, live-action Star Wars series have emerged, and unlike Solo, will rely on an entirely new cast of characters. Favreau told Nerdist at the Solo premiere that the unnamed series takes place seven years after Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi’s Battle of Endor. Favreau said the movie will introduce new characters to the Star Wars universe, and exist between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. By our calculations, that means Favreau’s Star Wars series takes place 23 years before The Force Awakens and four years prior to Rey’s birth.

Favreau didn’t say much more about the series other than addressing the technology being used to create it. It’s the same technology that Favreau used to make Disney’s The Jungle Book in 2016 and in next year’s upcoming Lion King remake.
The new Star Wars series doesn’t have a release date just yet, but is expected to launch alongside Disney’s stand-alone streaming service. It’s one of “multiple Star Wars” projects in development for the streaming service, according to Disney. Disney CEO, Bob Iger, previously said the service is expected to launch in late 2019, and will cost substantially less than Netflix’s current $10.99 price tag.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released on May 25.
