South Bend is the only winner.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs got derailed by the Round Rock Express (Rangers), 4-2.
The I-Cubs wasted a good start by Alec Mills, who allowed just one run on four hits over five innings. Mills struck out five and walked just one.
Dillon Maples entered the game in the top of the ninth with the score tied 2-2 and he gave up two runs on three hits to take the loss. Maples did not walk anyone (that’s positive!) and he did not strike anyone out.
Second baseman Chesny Young was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI single.
Third baseman Ryan Court was 2 for 5 with a double.
Tennessee Smokies
The Tennessee Smokies couldn’t hide from the Chattanooga Lookouts (Twins), 11-3.
Oscar De La Cruz started and took the loss. He kept the Lookouts off the board for the first four innings, but the Lookouts exploded for four runs in the fifth. De La Cruz allowed four runs on four hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out four and walked three.
First baseman Yasiel Balaguert went 3 for 3 with a solo home run in the sixth inning. It was Balaguert’s third home run of the season. He also walked once.
Right fielder Jeffrey Baez was 2 for 4.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Rained out in Wilmington. They’ll play a doubleheader on Wednesday.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs capsized the Lake County Captains (Indians), 4-3.
Tyler Thomas dominated the Captains over 6.2 innings for his second win of the season. Thomas allowed two runs, but only one earned, on just one hit, a leadoff single in the fourth inning. Thomas struck out seven and walked only one.
Enrique De Los Rios came on with one out in the ninth inning after Manuel Rondon gave up two baserunners to start the inning. De Los Rios allowed one inherited run on an error, but none of his own and got two groundouts for a save in 0.2 innings.
Catcher Miguel Amaya hit a solo home run to lead off the seventh inning. It was his fifth home run of the year. Amaya was 1 for 4.
Third baseman Austin Filiere was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.
